Karyn bought a house
on CR 510 16 years ago as a rental property. She rented it
out for several years to one couple then decided to put it
on the market. A woman and her son moved in on a lease
purchase, then her boyfriend. In a year's time, they had
torn the house apart and left. It was easier to move in and
work on it then drive back and forth after work from Clute.
It would be months before it would be in condition to rent
again. (Of course, having grown up on Caney Creek, I knew I
would probably never move back out again.) When Ed and Karyn
got married 4 years ago, they remodeled and added 12' to
each end and started living there together.
Ed Kadera grew up and lived his whole life in Angleton
(until Karyn swept him away). He worked at DOW and retired
from there. He always had a shop in the back yard of his
home to work on Harley Davidsons. After 40 years of doing
this, he couldn't give it up, upon getting married and
moving to Brazoria.
So they built a 40x80x20 shop at the front of their property
at 2917 CR 510, Brazoria and Ed reopened for business. He
has hard to find parts, rebuilds and does service. He also
does minor tune ups to complete overhauls. He stocks a few
clothes and other items. The building has a small sign "Ed's
Cycle's", but you can't miss the building. Ed only works on
and stocks parts for American made bikes, but can order
tires for about all. If the big double doors are open, he's
there. It's best to call in advance. Remember, he's supposed
to be "retired" so he doesn't keep strict hours in the
building.
Karyn has worked for The Facts newspaper in classified
advertising for over 20 years. She is active in the
Community Emergency Response Team and The Lake Jackson
Citizen's Policy Academy Alumni Association. In this
organization, she is a part of the small Citizen's On Patrol
program that is being tested in Lake Jackson, to help free
the real officers' time for the important jobs. (If you see
her in uniform, or driving a LJPD car, don't run.) She has
earned extra money on the side for years, doing such things
as: buying, fixing up, renting and selling homes, cleaning
houses, restoring Mustangs, training horses and selling
jellies, hot sauce, pickled jalapenos and pecans. She still
does the cooking part on the side.
To reach Karyn for any of her homemade goodies, you can call
979-798-6945.
To "talk shop" with Ed call 979-864-0209 or 979-798-6945.
*We are all looking
forward to sampling some of Karyn's Homemade Jellies at
Breakfast on the Bernard, on Saturday. The flavors she makes
