When
Friends Of the River San Bernard was first being
formed, one of the dreams of the organization was to
have a place they could call their own. A place
where the community could meet to celebrate events,
meet to socialize, have a place to hold public and
organizational meetings, view river events and just
a place to call home. There were many places that
were looked at and talked about and dreamed about,
but one in particular always seemed to stand out. A
beautiful piece of property, well located, complete
with all the trimmings and even looked like it was
seeking some Friends.
There were discussions about the use of the
property, calls made and possibilities discussed.
But it always seemed just out of reach - until one
day when things just seemed to fall in place.
Now, Friends Of the River have a home. And
what a beautiful home they have. Through the
generosity of the Brazoria Lions Club, a
dream came true for the river organization. Now the
dream is ready to share with all. With a lot of
work, donations and contributions completed, the
Friends Of the River Community Center is
ready to open its doors for everyone.
Words cannot express the tireless efforts that the
community has devoted to this project, the awesome
donations that have been made, the F.O.R.
Volunteers' commitment to getting our home
sparkling clean and up-to-date. A place we can all
be proud of. A Community Center for the community.
If we were to list everyone who helped make this
dream come true, who gave their time, their
contributions, their ideas and support - you'd be
reading this column for hours. There have been so
many people involved and so much done that all that
can be said is "thanks to all of you" from
your organization, Friends Of the River San
Bernard.
The Friends Of the River Community Center
doors will open wide at 3 p.m. On November 9,
to welcome all members and guests. A ribbon cutting
ceremony, sponsored by Brazoria Chamber of Commerce,
will commence shortly afterwards. A U.S. Flag will
be presented from Congressman Ron Paul's office, and a
'special award' presentation will follow.
Come by car -
or come by boat !
Please
come and enjoy your friends, neighbors, food and
drinks, and your new Home.
