Annual F.O.R. San Bernard
Christmas Boat Parade and Home Decorating Contest
Christmas time’s a
comin’ so, that means that the 21st Annual San Bernard River
Christmas Boat Parade and Home Decorating Contest is too!
Saturday, December 8th, the annual boat parade will begin at
the F.M. 521 bridge and will spread Christmas cheer
downriver to the Las Playas boat ramp. Participating boats
will be judged in three categories: 17 feet and under; 17
feet 1 inch – 24 feet, and 24 feet 1 inch and over. 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place plaques will be awarded in each category.
The parade begins at dusk (5:45 p.m.). There is no entry
fee, but participants must enter and be assigned a number to
be judged.
If you live on the river between the F.M. 521 bridge and the
Las Playas boat ramp, show your Christmas spirit by
decorating your house for the home decorating contest! Light
it up on Friday evening, December 7th for the photographer
to take pictures and again on Saturday night, December 8th,
when the judging will take place. Don’t forget to light
up those houses both evenings! Houses are placed in two
categories: those with 100 foot or under river frontage and
101 foot and over river frontage. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
plaques will be awarded in each category, and again – no
entry fee is required.
The winners will be announced at an awards dinner at the
home of Nelson and Vanessa Taylor (2909 C.R. 604) on Sunday,
December 9th at noon. BBQ with all the trimmings will be
served for each boat or home entered and their decorating
crew.
If you are interested in entering your boat or house, please
attend a Captain’s meeting at Dido’s Restaurant on December
6th at 7:00 p.m. However, if you simply want to sit back and
enjoy the parade with your friends and family, bring your
lawn chairs to one of the following viewing areas: McNeil
boat ramp (F.M. 521), the F.O.R. Community Center, (C.R.
510B) Dido’s Restaurant (C.R. 519), High Five Bar & Grill,
(F.M.2611) Las Playas boat ramp, or Churchill boat ramp (F.M.
2611). Come light up our river with holiday spirit and join
the fun!
