Brazosport Birders
President, David Plunkett,
to speak at F.O.R. Community
Center
The Friends Of the
River Community Center was
acquired in August 2007, for
the use of the community and
to host F.O.R. events. Much
time, work and money was put
into the building and
grounds to make it the best
little gathering place in
the area. We are proud of
what has been accomplished.
The F.O.R. Community Center
Committee hopes that
everyone will take advantage
of the wonderful meeting
place and visit every chance
they get.
Since it's inception
as a F.O.R. building and
grounds, there have been
about 28 F.O.R. meetings
held there, 4 public events,
5 rentals and 1 hosting of a
governmental meeting
concerning the River. All in
all, a busy little place.
During all these meetings
and events, the Committee
and member volunteers, have
worked tirelessly to improve
and maintain the building
and grounds. Many wonderful
gifts have been donated to
help keep the budget down
while making the needed
improvements. Expertise on
key items have been provided
out of the blue from the
hearts of those that care.
Many thanks go to all
involved in these efforts.
But we're not
through by a long shot.
Beginning in February, the
Community Center committee,
on behalf of F.O.R. will be
holding lectures, hands on
workshops and fun events for
all who wish to attend.
Plans are to have a subject
of interest to the community
the third Friday of every
other month, 7 p.m. until 9
p.m. Some months and times
will be adjusted to best
serve the event being
presented or to avoid
conflict with other
scheduled events -so keep
watch on the F.O.R. Calendar
for upcoming sessions.
The first subject,
on February 15, will
be a lecture and slides by
David Plunkett
about our feathered friends
and other naturalist
information. Want to know
what kind of bird that was
on your dock this morning?
Well, come to the F.O.R.
Community Center and find
out. Because of the interest
generated on the forum, and
the timing of the spring
migration, this will be the
perfect subject for the
February gathering. The
doors will open at 6 p.m.
to provide plenty of time to
visit with your neighbors
before the presentation
begins. Please plan to
attend and get all those
bird questions answered by a
Brazosport Birder.
Future subjects will
include, but not be limited
to, such things as boating
safety and etiquette,
fishing tackle, tips for our
local waters and fish
identification, an ice cream
social and story telling
about the early days on the
river, an afternoon jam
session by our local
musicians, just to mention a
few.
This is just another
way to give back to those
who have supported and
joined in to make this the
most exceptional linear
community in the nation.
None of this would be
possible without you.
Please see Community
Center Tab above for map and
other information.
