F.O.R.’s Adopt-A-Highway Effort Joins
TxDOT for the Great Texas Trash Off Day
Get ready to
clean up our adopted highway, FM 2918.
Spring is just around the corner and
F.O.R. is looking for 12 volunteer
friends and neighbors to participate in
our commitment to TxDOT ’s
Adopt-a-Highway program. This year, for
the first of our quarterly road
clean-ups, TxDOT is asking that F.O.R.
participate in the great Texas Trash Off
Day, Saturday, April 5th. On that day,
volunteers state-wide will be cleaning
up their own two mile sections of
adopted highway giving our whole state
the gift of clean highways – for at
least one day!
So, here is
the F.O.R. game plan. April 5th, the
Friends Of the River Adopt-a-Highway
volunteers will meet at Bernard Grocery
in Churchill at 10:00 a.m. to
distribute safety vests, bags, trash
stabbers (a.k.a. flounder gigs) and get
final instructions before moving on to
our two miles of F.M. 2918. If you are
volunteering, make sure you bring
mosquito spray, sunscreen, hats, gloves
and boots. Trash bags and cold water
will be provided. (There is a shortage
of mowing contractors this year and
there will be no mowing along this
highway until May – dress
appropriately.) In the event of rain,
the clean up will be rescheduled
for April 12th.
The trash
pick up will be over around noon. There
will be a picnic at Bernard Acres,
immediately following the event.

The age requirement for participation,
set by the state is "no children under
age 7". Each child 7 to 14 must be
supervised by a parent.
