Friends Of the River
"Members of the Month"
Richard and Nelda Walkewicz
Richard
and Nelda moved to the San Bernard River back in
1982 from Bellaire, Texas. Richard is retired
from the IRS and Nelda is retired from the VA
Hospital where she was a Registered Nurse. They
are long time members of St. Josephs Catholic
Church, in Brazoria. They celebrated their 50th
anniversary on Jan. 25, 2008. A family
celebration was held at Landry's, in Kemah,
hosted by their daughter, Denise Stevenson, and
husband Mike. They have 3 children, Lynn
Walkewicz, Denise Stevenson, and Rick Walkewicz.
Also, they have seven grandchildren, Matthew
Weaver, Jared and Melissa Woodring, Adam, Tony
and Roy Buxton, Ricky Walkewicz and one
Great-Granddaughter, Amelia Rose Buxton.
They spent many hours up and down the river as
their children were growing up. They all learned
how to ski behind their first small 16 ft boat.
There were many trips across the Intracoastal
waterway to the beach when the mouth of the
river was open. Fishing was a lot better then
than it is now.
By the time the grandkids came along, the boat
was bigger but the fun was the same. Tubing,
knee-boarding and wake boarding were added.
Richard and Nelda have enjoyed living on the
river and cannot imagine living anywhere else-
so many great friends and lots of good memories!
Note: We have been so impressed with
the work of the F.O.R organization and the
tremendous accomplishments.
Thank you for the honor of being selected as
Members of the Month for April 2008.
See you at breakfast!
Richard and Nelda
