Meet Professional Fishing Guide Randall Groves
TONIGHT !
F.O.R. Community Center
Friday April 18, 2008
Social Hour 6 p.m. - Program 7 p.m.
In or about 1975 I moved, with my family, to the West
Columbia / Sweeny area from Brazoria. We lived in a rural
neighborhood on the east end of F.M.1459 near F.M.1301.
Across the street from our house ran the San Bernard River,
where many a day I spent squirrel hunting and or cat fishing.
And sometimes when I was "in trouble", I had to just settle
with throwing rocks or riding my bike down the slope of the
river. We spent about 10 years in this location, then we
purchased a piece of land and built our first house, near
the dam on the San Bernard river, (within walking distance )
just behind Phillips reservoir.
About 5 miles up from the dam all of us neighborhood kids
had constructed a trolley going across the river. We would
ride the trolley to the middle of the river and drop to the
river from about 15 feet. What a blast that was! We would
all hang out there, hours on end and swim and well...Just
hang out. We lived there my entire childhood until I
graduated from high school and left home to join today’s
society. I am now married to the love of my life and have 3
beautiful children. We now live in Angleton.
I have been guiding now for about 10 ten years. My dad and I
now run a full service Lodge and Guide Service on Bastrop
Bayou, near Angleton. I am really looking forward to meeting
everyone at the Friends Of the River Community Center this
week, and being back on the San Bernard. WOW, WHAT A RIDE!
Who would have ever thought that someone would want to come
and hear what I had to say.
We have a new boat that will is due to be ready this week.
Maybe I can bring it to the meeting on the 18th.
Tight lines and calm seas !
