Joins Texas Trash Off
On
Saturday, April 5th, volunteers from F.O.R'
s Adopt-A-Highway Committee participated in
the annual statewide "Texas Trash
Off". Twenty three bags of trash were
collected along our adopted highway, F.M.
2918. Reports were turned in Monday morning
and by 2:00 p.m., the state work crews had
already hauled away the debris.
F.O.R adopted
a 2.5 mile stretch of F.M. 2918, in the fall
of 2007, promising four clean up days per
year. Three more clean up days have been
scheduled for 2008. The next will be a
weekday morning, toward the end of June.
This will give parents an opportunity to
encourage their children to help keep Texas
and our San Bernard River area clean by
joining in the pick up. The age requirement
for participation, set by the state is "no
children under age 7". Each child 7 to 14
must be supervised by a parent.
Following
Saturdays "Trash Off ", a picnic lunch,
provided by Sue Bailey and Gloria Powell,
was enjoyed by the clean up crew.
Saturday's
volunteers included Sue and Bob Bailey,
Darnell Breau, Jan and Roy Edwards, Joyce
and David Hooker, Pat and Mike Jankowiak,
Valroy Maudlin, Gloria and Darrel Powell and
Mark Hazelrigg.
On this day,
April 5, 2008 volunteers state-wide joined
with TxDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program and
cleaned their own two mile sections of
adopted highway- giving our whole state the
gift of clean highways – for at least one
day!
