Report on Quarterly Texas
Chapter ASBPA Meeting
On Monday,
May 19, 2008, Friends Of the
River San Bernard was invited to
speak at the quarterly meeting
of the Texas Chapter of the
American Shore and Beach
Preservation Association (ASBPA).
The meeting was held at the
lower Colorado River Authority’s
(LCRA) convention facility at
the Matagorda Bay Nature Park at
the Jetties on the Colorado
River.
In addition to the F.O.R.
speakers, se veral
F.O.R. members attended the
meeting.
Pat Webb
gave a brief summary on the
formation, goals, and activities
of the F.O.R. San Bernard
organization and its committees.
Roy Edwards spoke on the history
of the San Bernard River, the
closure of the mouth, F.O.R.’s
efforts to restore the river’s
mouth, and the commitment from
the USACE to plan and oversee
the construction project
starting in October of 2008.
Over 50 people attended the
three hour meeting. There were
representatives from the General
Land Office, TxDOT, LCRA,
Matagorda County, Brazoria
County, Galveston County as well
as the ASBPA, who represented
most of the Coastal Texas
counties.
The F.O.R.
presentation was well received.
