Mouth Update
The
Corps of Engineers Environmental Section is
compiling an Environmental Assessment to document
impacts that could occur as a result of the project.
As part of the Environmental Assessment, a
marine
archeological investigation of the project area was
required. The investigation revealed several
anomalies located within the project area with
signatures consistent with boat signatures. These
anomalies may or may not be eligible for registry with
the Texas Historical Commission and could require
further investigation to positively identify them.
The
current plan is to avoid the anomalies by adjusting the
channel alignment. Corps of Engineers
Environmental Section is working closely with the Texas
Historical Commission to determine if avoiding the
anomalies is a feasible alternative.
This
situation should be resolved in a few weeks. The
Corps of Engineers hopes to be able to avoid these
anomalies,
thus
preventing a negative impact on the
project schedule.
