The Dow Foundation Celebrates the Human Element with “Dollars for Doers” Program – and F.O.R. Benefits with grants totaling $1000

The Dow Chemical Company Foundation wanted to celebrate employees in their company who give back to the community by their volunteer efforts and F.O.R. is the happy recipient of two of the $500.00 grants. Chaney Moore, Bruce Barner and Nancy Kanter, sent in applications to the “Dollars for Doers” program and were recently notified that two of the applications were randomly selected as winners of the second Quarter Dow Foundation Volunteerism Grants. Organizations can receive only two grants, totaling $1,000 annually.

In addition to their full time employment at The Dow Chemical Company, Chaney serves as Friends Of the River's President, and is a two year board member, while Nancy holds the position of F.O.R.'s Treasurer, is a two year board member and member of F.O.R.'s Original Organizing Committee.  Bruce Barner has also served as a F.O.R. Board member for two years. All are active in several F.O.R. committees.

F.O.R. would like to thank The Dow Chemical Company Foundation and Chaney Moore, Nancy Kanter and Bruce Barner for “doing” the right thing!

Subject: CONGRATULATIONS!!  Dollars for Doers Grant Recipient - Friends of the River San Bernard

Congratulations!! Your application was one of the 25 randomly selected for the first-ever Dollars for Doers program drawing. Your volunteerism is very important to the success of our communities and I would like to personally thank you for your dedication and commitment to your organization. Please feel free to notify them of your success!

A check will be sent directly to your group at the mailing address you provided on your application. The check requests generally take 4-6 weeks to get processed, so your group can expect to see their funding by the end of July.

I hope you will share any recognition received for this contribution, such as newsletter articles, advertisements, letters, etc., with Trish Ritthaler, the TX Ops Community Relations Manager. This gives us the opportunity to highlight the work you and your organization are doing, and encourage others to get involved in their communities.

Internally, in the next few days you will be seeing a story in Newsline and on the Big Tex Community Relations page announcing the first Dollars For Doers recipients.

We will also notify The Facts newspaper and hope they see fit to publicize these organizations and the ways Dow employees are taking action to help serve others in need in our communities.

Now that you have received a Dollars for Doers grant, you will no longer be eligible for the program this year. However, 2009 will be here before we know it and I would encourage you to apply again next year.

Again, thank you for your volunteerism. You truly are the Human Element at work making our communities a better place to live, work and grow.

Best Regards,

Gary

TXO - New Funding Program Helps Texas Operations Volunteers Help their Organizations
Monday, April 28, 2008
Texas Operations

As National Volunteers Week is being celebrated across the United States, an exciting new charitable funding program is being launched at Texas Operations to recognize, encourage and support the volunteer efforts of Texas Operations employees who choose to give their time to local community organizations in order to contribute to community success.

Through the “Dollars for Doers” program, funded by The Dow Chemical Company Foundation, employee volunteers can apply on behalf of local non-profit organizations for a one-time grant of $500 per volunteer -- to support qualified community organizations to which they regularly dedicate their personal time. Organizations can receive up to $1,000 annually. A maximum of 25 qualified applications will be chosen randomly and awarded funding each quarter. The first deadline for applications is
May 31, 2008
.

“Texas Operations employees aren’t hesitant to lend a hand in our communities, and so we wanted a way to recognize them and to provide support to the organizations they give their time to,” says Community Relations Manager Trish Ritthaler. “Hopefully it will also highlight the need for volunteers in our communities and encourage more Texas Operations employees to get involved.”

She adds the program has worked well for other Dow sites in
Canada and Louisiana. It will be implemented at Freeport this year and then evaluated for expansion to other Texas
sites in 2009.

To qualify, an organization must:

1. Be based in southern Brazoria County, OR in the community in which the applicant lives
2. Comply with Dow Donation Business Rules and have a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax designation or be a municipal or government agency
3. Align with Dow’s overall contributions strategy and fit in one of the following categories: Science in Society, Contributing to Community Success or   Environmental Sustainability
4. Confirm that the employee has been an active, regular volunteer for at least one year
5. Report on any recognition received for the contribution (e.g. Photo in newspaper, newsletter article, etc.) must be reported to Public Affairs
