Will
Your
Boat Pass Inspection?
Friends Of the River Presents
Courtesy Boat Safety Inspections
Would your boat pass a Coast Guard
Inspection if you are stopped on the
water – or would
you be issued
a citation? The way to find out (without
paying an expensive
fine), is
to have your boat inspected by a
qualified agency. To help boaters
stay
safe on the waters of
Brazoria County,
Friends Of the River San Bernard
presents a special Community Center
Event for the boating public.
On
Saturday, July 12, 2008, the
Galveston Bay Power and Sail Squadron
will conduct the inspections of boats
and personal watercraft. The free safety
inspections will take place at the F.O.R
Community Center (20450 C.R. 510 B in
the Holiday Shores Subdivision,
Brazoria) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Anyone owning a power boat or personal
watercraft can bring them by trailer or
water to the
F.O.R.
Community Center for an inspection. Each
watercraft inspection lasts 15 – 20
minutes and upon passing, will be issued
a sticker to display on the craft. The
Galveston Bay Power and Sail Squadron will
not issue citations – this event
is intended to foster personal safety on
the water. So, if the watercraft does
not pass inspection, things causing the
craft not to pass inspection will be
noted so the owner can correct them.
This
is just another way to give back to the
community. As the summer heats up, boat
usage increases and everyone needs to
take responsibility for their safety on
the water. A free safety inspection is a
good way to start!
The
Galveston Bay Power and Sail
Squadron will bring as many
personnel as necessary to inspect
participating boats, but F.O.R.will
need to give them an estimate of the
number of boats to be inspected by
July 10.
