CELEBRATE JULY FOURTH  WITH THE SAN BERNARD RIVER BOAT PARADE

Last year the rain clouds moved in and rained out the July 4th boat parade, so this year we’re trying again.  A huge turn out is expected for the third year of the July 4th parade presented by Friends Of the River San Bernard (F.O.R.).

On Saturday, July 5th, the parade will begin at the Churchill Bridge on FM 2611 and motor on down river to 2J’s Café and Marina where the parade participants can enjoy an awards dinner.  The traditional 4th of July fare – hot dogs with all the trimmings -- will be served.  All boat entries and crews are invited to the dinner where the winners will be announced and door prizes given away.

The parade is open to everyone; there is no entry fee.  Any kind or size of boat or Jet Ski can be decorated and entered in the parade.  Plaques will be given for the following categories: Best Spirit, Best Sound, Most Patriotic, Most Unusual, Best Theme, and Best Overall.  The parade begins at 5:00p.m., and entered boats should be in the water and ready for parade line-up at the Churchill Bridge by 4:30 p.m.

If you are interested in entering your boat you’re invited to attend a Captain’s meeting at 2J’s Café and Marina on Thursday, July 3rd, at 7:00 p.m., or for more information contact the Taylors at 964-4402.   However, if you simply want to sit back and enjoy the parade with your friends and family, bring your lawn chairs to one of the following viewing areas: High Five Bar & Grill, Las Playas boat ramp, 2J’s Café and Marina, or the Churchill boat ramp (F.M. 2611).

Put on your red-white-and-blue thinking-cap, decorate your boat, and help celebrate our country’s birthday on the San Bernard River.  Everyone is welcome!
