Are You Ready for a Hurricane?
F.O.R. Presents Hurricane
Preparedness and Evacuation Seminar
What
would you do if a hurricane was
barreling across the Gulf waters
headed straight for Brazoria County?
What’s the current evacuation plan
if the worst happens? Friends Of the
River San Bernard presents a special
Community Center event, Hurricane
Preparedness and Evacuation. On
Friday, August 8, 2008, Steve Rosa
(Assistant Emergency Management
Coordinator for Brazoria County)
will make a presentation to help
answer those questions. The free
seminar will take place at the F.O.R
Community Center (20450 C.R. 510 B
in the Holiday Shores Subdivision,
Brazoria) from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. The
doors to the F.O.R. Community Center
will open at 6 p.m.
As the height of the hurricane
season nears, the Gulf waters heat
up and tropical disturbances are
occurring across the Atlantic Ocean,
its past time to make preparations
to keep your family and property
safe from a storm. To that end, Mr.
Rosa will present a slide show of
what is projected to happen in the
area if we get a storm surge from a
direct hit. Mr. Rosa will also
discuss the current evacuation plan
for the county and why you should
plan to evacuate in case of a storm.
Who to call to find out if it is
safe to return after the storm will
also be covered. Then, if you have
questions, they will also be
addressed.
This is just another way to give
back to the community. As the summer
heats up, a chance for tropical
storms intensifies. With gas prices
being so high, an evacuation will
prove challenging to all of us. But,
as a community, we can help each
other through any storm that comes
our way –we just need to know how to
help ourselves and our community.
This seminar can help us make plans
to keep the people and things we
hold dear safe - in case the worst
case scenario ever happens.
