F.O.R. Presents Dock Hop!
Get
ready to get out and meet your neighbors with a
river style National Night Out – a Dock Hop!
For
the past two years Friends Of the River San
Bernard has encouraged their friends and
neighbors to participate in National Night Out
with a Dock Hop. This year National Night Out
was moved to October but F.O.R.’s plans were
made before the change and so will continue
(this year) to get out and meet our neighbors in
the historical month of August. This year’s Dock
Hop will be on Saturday, August 16 from 6:00
p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
What
is National Night Out? Traditionally National
Night Out is designed to:
-
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
-
Generate support for local anticrime programs
-
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and
police-community partnerships and
-
Send a message to criminals letting them know
that neighborhoods are organized and committed
to watch for one another.
The San Bernard River community is not your
traditional neighborhood; we are a linear
community woven together by our river. Since we
don't live in a city subdivision it is even more
important that we take time to get out and meet
our neighbors. Since the river is too long to
meet all our neighbors we are designating the
“hosting” area so everyone can meet as many of
their neighbors as possible.
All
“hosting” will occur between the FM 521 Bridge
and the FM 2611 bridge. Those of you living on
the Sweeny (or west) side of the river between
the bridges you will play host to your neighbors
on your boat dock.
If
you live on the Brazoria (or east) side of the
river (between the bridges) you will be the dock
hoppers and can take your boat from one
neighbor’s dock to the next.
If
you live on the Sweeny or west side of the river
but outside the bridges you can drive to the
F.O.R. Community Center (20450 C.R. 510-B) Bring
your favorite snacks or beverages and “host”
from there.
If
you live anywhere on the Brazoria (east) side of
the river and you own a boat you can hop to your
neighbors’ docks anywhere between the bridges.
But if you don’t own a boat you can drive to the
F.O.R. Community Center and enjoy the fellowship
there.
Hosts
please prepare your best snack, dessert or
beverage for your guests because a poll on
Best
Dessert Appetizer/Snack and
Beverage will be conducted following the
event on
www.sanbernardriver.com
and prizes will be awarded. Those of you who are
dock hopping will be voting on the best snack
you encounter. Doesn’t that sound like fun?
Dock
Hop is a Friends Of the River (F.O.R.) San
Bernard community service event. Neighborhood
Crime Watch literature will be distributed by
the Brazoria Co. Sheriff’s Department. If you
have a neighbor that has not been to a F.O.R.
Event this is the perfect opportunity for you to
reach out to them and bring them along.
So
whether you are planning to host or hop, the
main thing is to get out, have some fun and
get to know your neighbors !
