Bill and Jackie Benson

Bill and I bought our little piece of paradise on the San Bernard way back in 1973 when our youngest daughter was just a baby. Our kids grew up skiing on this river from our place, north of the rail road bridge, to the Gulf of Mexico. Back then we could easily get to the Gulf by boat and the sandy beach along the Gulf was one of my favorite places to go for long walks on the weekends. Plus it was a great beach for the kids to play on since there was no vehicle traffic to worry about. The kids could play and explore without the large crowds of typical public beaches.

Although we lived here on the river for several years when the children were younger, we primarily made our home in the Houston area because my job was there. After 40 plus years in the car business, Bill retired about six years ago and I retired last year from an oil and gas engineering firm and we are now happily settled in our little house on the Bernard. I can’t imagine living anywhere except here on this beautiful river - our little piece of heaven on earth!

Currently we are working with members of F.O.R.’s Environmental Committee and we are taking the Texas Stream Team Training to be eligible for testing the river water along the area north of the rail road bridge. We are excited to be doing our part to preserve this waterway for generations to come.
