Welcome A"board" Friends Of the River San Bernard

Friends Of the River (F.O.R.) San Bernard held their third annual public meeting and Board of Directors election 4 p.m. Saturday, September 6 at Dido’s Restaurant. Five candidates were installed into the organization. F.O.R. proudly presents to the public the newly elected Directors for its Board. They are (in alphabetical order): Bill Barnes, Suzanne Goodson, Wayne Head, Al Roco and Marilyn Shockley. Each candidate came forward and addressed the audience, stating the reasons why they wished to serve on the F.O.R. Board.

These new board members were elected for a three year term of office. The resulting new Board of Directors will, in turn, elect new board officers by the next Board meeting, September 10 , as required by the corporation’s by-laws.

Current Board Members who are stepping down are: Artie Burnett, Ken Corley, Mike Demland, Chaney Moore and Tom Valliere. The river community acknowledges and truly appreciates their service.

Brian Koch, Reg
ional Watershed Coordinator for the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, gave a presentation on watershed issues affecting our river and area.

The 2008 River Raiser, F.O.R.’s annual fund raiser coming up Sunday, October 26 to be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall from noon to 3 p.m., was announced. Other announcements were: the F.O.R. Ranger meetings held the 3rd Monday of each month; the third quarter Adopt-a-highway on Saturday, October 11; the Men vs. Women Fishing match at the F.O.R. Community Center Saturday, October 18; the annual F.O.R. river clean-up on Saturday, November 1; and the annual Christmas Boat Parade and House Decorating Contest, Saturday, December 13.   Roy Edwards also gave an update on the river mouth.

Congratulations go out to all who were elected to serve the community, and those who participated in the process.
