F.O.R. San Bernard in the News
Can You Dig It?
Our best estimate
is that 206 people attended the Can You Dig It event Saturday,
May 13th, at the mouth of the San Bernard River.
The river that once flowed directly into the Gulf now comes to an halt 150
yards from the Gulf due to a buildup of sand coming from the re-routed
Brazos River mouth. Boats and shuttles, flying F.O.R. San
Bernard flags, began arriving at noon and continued throughout the day.
At 2:00 PM, we formed a human line from River to Gulf and
symbolically free the river by digging out the sand. Other activities included
horseshoes, kite flying and a treasure hunt for young members. This event was
front page news, with photos, in The Facts the following Sunday. Dignitaries
were there to help us, including
- U.S. Congressman Ron Paul
- Shane Sklar, candidate for U.S.
Congressman, 14th District of Texas
- Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh, candidate for
County Commissioner Precinct 4
- Florin Vrazel, candidate for Brazoria
County Judge
- Sean Pirtle, representing his brother,
Shane Pirtle, candidate for County Commissioner Precinct 4.
1st Annual Memorial Day Boat Parade
The
parade run from McNeill
Bridge to Las Playas with
23 beautifully decorated boats. A BBQ followed at the home of Nelson &
Vanessa Taylor with 130 members attending.
Flags and Banners for Sale
Flag
and banner sales this month brought in $1,143. They can be seen flying and
hanging all along the river.
Link to Order Form for flags and banners.
Yellowstone Dignitary Event
Capt.
Ken and Linda Wright provided a donated 1.5 hour ride on Yellowstone
from the Organizing Committee and many local, state and federal dignitaries,
listed below. They were able to see the river and the beautiful homes along the
river first hand. Linda Wright provided an excellent narrative throughout the
ride. When we returned to the
dock, the group was saluted by a stream of water shot out of the turret gun of
the new fire truck by River’s End Volunteer Fire Department. Frank Cubillos and David Wineland
manned the equipment. The Town Hall Meeting followed by Dido’s.
