Update session set on
mouth of San Bernard
Published January 22,
2008
As friends of the River
San Bernard members celebrate the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers’ decision to open the
river mouth, officials are planning a public
meeting to explain plans for the project.
“We see this as a real opportunity to come
down there and talk with the citizens and
explain our processes,” said Marti Cenkci,
the Corps’ Galveston District Chief of
Public Affairs.
They are wanting to let people know “where
we are right now in this project, and where
we hope to be and when we hope to be there,”
she said.
The public meeting is set for 7 p.m. Friday
at the Brazoria Civic Center, which is at
Smith Street and Highway 36.
Tom Lizardo, chief of staff for Congressman
Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, and senior staff
members from the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers will give a short presentation and
answer questions about the river project.
“I never thought it would happen, and it’s
happening,” Friends of the River San Bernard
advocate Jan Edwards said. “I think this is
just a wonderful thing for the county, for
the area and for everybody.”
The Corps wants to broaden the knowledge
people have of what they do and let them
know what the process will be for working on
the mouth of the river.
