Friends of the River
event for the birds
Published February 11,
2008
BRAZORIA — The Friends of
the River Community Center beginning Friday
will be host to a series of lectures,
workshops and events for the community. The
various programs are planned to be from 7 to
9 p.m. the third Friday of every other
month.
The first event will be for the birds as
Brazosport Birders President David Plunkett
presents a program about man’s feathered
friends and other naturalist information.
Want to know what kind of bird that was on
your dock this morning? Come to the FOR
Community Center Friday and find out.
Because of the upcoming spring migration,
this is the perfect subject for a February
gathering. The doors of the Community Center
will open at 6 p.m. to provide plenty of
time to visit with your neighbors before the
presentation begins.
The Brazosport Birders and Naturalists is an
organization, based in southern Brazoria
County, whose primary focus is birding and
conservation of our natural resources
Future topics will include boating safety
and etiquette, fishing tackle tips for local
waters and fish identification, an ice cream
social, story-telling about the early days
on the river and a jam session by local
musicians — just to mention a few.
The Friends of the River Community Center
was acquired in August 2007 for the use of
the community and to host FOR events.
Since its inception, there have been about
28 FOR meetings there, four public events,
five rentals and one hosting of a
governmental meeting concerning the river.
