Group to provide boat safety inspections

Published June 26, 2008

To help boaters stay safe on the waters of Brazoria County, Friends of the River San Bernard will present a special event for the boating public.

The Galveston Bay Power and Sail Squadron will be on hand from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. July 12 to inspect boats and personal watercraft. The free safety inspections will take place at the F.O.R Community Center, 20450 CR 510-B in the Holiday Shores Subdivision, Brazoria.

Power boat or personal watercraft owners can bring them by trailer or water for an inspection. Each inspection lasts 15 to 20 minutes with a sticker issued for those that pass.

With the intention of fostering personal safety on the water, The Galveston Bay Power and Sail Squadron will not issue citations. If a watercraft does not pass inspection, violations will be noted so the owner can correct them.

Boaters interested in a free inspection must register by July 10 at www.sanbernardriver.com.
