Port of Freeport the Support of the San
Bernard River is Clear!
By Roy Edwards, Chairman River Mouth Committee
July 2, 2007 was a good day for those of us who
live in Brazoria County and the San Bernard
River gained another good friend. That was the
day that the Port of Freeport formally
showed support for the re-opening of the San
Bernard River in a letter to the G.L.O.
Supporting the latest round C.E.P.R.A.grant
request for the San Bernard River Project.
If you remember, we had support from Congressman
Paul, and we asked all of you to send your
letters of support to Coast & Harbor
Engineering, who prepared the grant
application for Brazoria County and attached all
our letters of support to the grant application.

The Port did not get the word about the grant
application in time to send in their letter
along with ours, so they did the next best thing
they sent in their letter of support for the
San Bernard River Project directly to
Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson! The below
letter from A. J. Reixach, Jr., Executive Port
Director of the Port of Freeport is more than
just a letter of support for the San Bernard
River Project. It represents a major goal of
Friends Of the River San Bernard. The
receipt of this letter represents a written
demonstration of support for re-opening the
mouth of the San Bernard River from every
incorporated city and town - as well as every
major political entity- in Brazoria County.
F. O. R. has
worked towards the opening of the mouth of the
San Bernard River, the replenishment and
nourishment of eroding area beaches, and
stabilization of the areas ecology. Continued
public and political support, as represented by
letters like the one from the Port of
Freeport, will be instrumental in the
achievement of those goals.
On behalf of Friends Of the River San Bernard
and the San Bernard River itself thank you
Port of Freeport and
Executive Director
Reixach
for your support of the San Bernard River
Project! Welcome, everyone, our newest
Friend Of the River !
